INSTRUCTOR ROLE OVERVIEW
Little Black Pearl School of the Arts will provide support to 85-90 students and 15 staff in an arts and technology-based school, preparing students for a quality life in the 21st Century. At LBPA, we:
Challenge youth to be critical thinkers, evaluate belief systems, make adequate choices inthe context of a global society.
Prepare students to earn a high school diploma, pursue post-secondary education and/orworkforce opportunities.
Create a highly immersive learning experience utilizing art, design and technologyprinciples.
Integrate educational strategies to accelerate learning.
Apply the theme of “creative invention” in all aspects of the school’s design to support the interconnectedness of academics, community, career, and post-secondary goals.
The Dean of Student Support and School Culture will work directly with the school Principal and Associate Director to:
Primary Purpose of Position
The Dean of Student Support and School Culture will:
provide security support and set the tone each school day for students and staff
be responsible for developing positive relationships with students and families that foster a unique learning environment and positive behavior
be responsible for creating an environment that is aligned with the Little Black Pearl Artand Design Academy’s (LBPA) mission
be responsible for providing professional development to staff in order to strengthenschool culture and help teachers develop positive relationships with students.
be responsible for providing all of the necessary support to the climate and culture of theschool to ensure that all students are encouraged, supported, and set clear expectation and standards for excellent teaching and professionalism
responsible for effective follow-through around school culture and student discipline policies and plans
be responsible for working closely with the Principal to ensure consistency in the discipline across the school
be responsible for problem-solving with teachers especially around challenging students, and develop behavior modification plans for students in order to support more positive behavior
serve as the primary disciplinarian for students by supporting and assigning appropriate and logical consequences for students as necessary
train, assist, and coach teachers in creating a positive, disciplined, achievement-oriented school culture rooted in restorative practices
be a regular presence in classrooms, informally observing and following up with teachers in order to improve teacher effectiveness
recognize and celebrate student achievement and staff professional growth and success
in conjunction with the Principal, develop a plan to proactively engage parents to support their child and the school, and to hold them accountable for their end of the Commitment To Success
proactively communicate with parents through “check-in” calls or emails, and address parent concerns as they arise
plan training and professional development during the school year that relates to student
discipline and culture
keep and use accurate information/data about students: Behavior GPA, suspensions, behavior modification plans, and communicate such information to parents and faculty
supervise breakfast, lunch, the campus , and study extended day
work with Student Advocate to build successful Peer Council and Peer Jury trainings and schedule that encourages students positive behavior
work with the LBPA team to problem-solve major areas of school concerns, and plan short-term and long-term criteria for success
listen and respond to problems/concerns identified by teachers, parents and students while being thoughtful in designing solutions
in conjunction with the Principal, provide strategic direction for the school, including refining school objectives and planning for how these objectives will be met over a period of time
attend meetings related to job as needed
work with the Director of Facilities to create a schedule of compliance drills.
Minimum Qualifications
1. BS/BA degree or above
2. Experience serving in a school leadership role
3. At least two years of experience demonstrating excellent classroom management skills
4. Experience working with high school students with diverse backgrounds and needs
(at-risk)
5. Experience and general understanding of educational administration
Preferred Qualifications
1. Training in behavioral management techniques
2. Experience and/or training with restorative practices
3. Two years experience serving as a Dean of Students and/or other administrative role
SALARY: $50,000 per year
